Smile Train

About the company

World’s largest children’s charity providing corrective surgery for children with cleft lips and palates globally.

They have a global network of doctors, sometimes in remote places. Receiving support worldwide, Smile Train generates a revenue of around $100 million a year.

Looking for updated architecture and to build a totally new version of its patient management system.

They specifically needed help keeping the system up-to-date with new features and requirements for data tracking. It was also vital to maintain access for their global network of doctors, sometimes in remote places with limited connectivity and out-of-date computers. They also required thorough analysis and evaluation of their systems including a review of facial recognition algorithms to help identify duplicate patients.

Performed a technological assessment of their legacy system, including a high-level security audit and risk analysis.

Detailed the necessary requirements and implemented enhancements, including adding new reporting functionality, refreshing the look & feel, resolving performance problems, and addressing identified security issues. We also advised Smile Train on software development processes, introducing up-to-date source code management, testing, and deployment practices. Improving their digital product’s UX was an integral element of updating their legacy system.

Successful cooperation as a result of using business processes and reliable high-quality development.

We ended up saving SmileTrain substantial costs of a rebuild by finding ways to address the current pain points, with their existing platform, while adding essential enhancements. Updating their legacy system with improved UX was as crucial to Smile Train as our strong business management and processes. They made it clear that project management was something they valued highly when looking for a development partner.
